General characteristics of sleepwalking

People who sleepwalk seem to be engaged in a very meaningful activity. Such activities are often symbolic re-appearances of his suppressed painful experience. After the sleepwalking ended, the patient knew nothing about sleepwalking.

Sleepwalking is clearly a mutated state of consciousness. The patient has lost contact with his surroundings and seems to be living in a private world. Sometimes he is very emotional and even says a lot of nonsense, making it difficult for people around him to understand what he is saying.
